Power: We all need it!

From Fridges to Laptops, from Mobiles to Washing Machines and increasingly cars, we all need a lot of power. And when it fails for any length of time it’s very inconvenient. Sometimes outages are unexpected and sometimes they are planned, as our lives require more and more power infrastructure.

From a Business point-of-view, power is required for all sorts of things that enable you to work:

Laptops and PCs
(and Monitors)

Telephones

Network
Switches

Broadband

Servers or Remote Hosted Services

Keeping Essential Devices Running When It Matters Most

Laptops have batteries which is good as they can run without charge for some time. However other items above need mains power to continue to work. This is where power protection and continuity comes into effect.

The Essential Benefits of Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS)

Servers are not the only things that need Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS).  With the rise of VoIP telephony and Cloud Services the network itself needs to continue to run in the event of an outage. These units give several benefits: –

Keeping Devices Running Seamlessly

The Battery in the UPS keeps the devices connected to it running.

Protecting Your Devices from Spikes & Dips

The UPS will have power protection circuity to smooth out ‘spikes’ (over-voltages from the Mains) and ‘brown outs’ (under-voltages from the Mains).

Productivity Without Power Disruptions

Whilst there are better opportunities for staff to work from home in the event of a large power outage; if you can continue to run with everyone in the office for an amount of time that helps with productivity and avoids delays whilst users decamp to their home, or you have to run around redirecting phones or other systems.
We recommend UPS for network devices and small desktop UPS for PCs.

Ensuring Reliable Power Protection

However like any battery, that is charging up-and-down, these needed to be maintained and the rechargeable battery units within the UPS units changed regularly. For Network UPS this is around 18-24 months to ensure all continues to work. For Desktop UPS units this can be 24 months.
